PETER SAGAL, HOST:
Right now, panel, it is time for you to answer some questions about this week's news. Maeve, 23andMe is the popular genomics company. They not only successfully determined one woman's ancestry, but they also revealed to her that she was related to whom?
MAEVE HIGGINS: I don't know about this, actually.
HIGGINS: Did they find out she was related to her - obviously not her mom.
HIGGINS: No, no, no. Somebody, like, cool - like, somebody, like - did she - Joan of Arc or something?
HIGGINS: Can I get a clue? Are you allowed to get a clue?
SAGAL: Yeah. Her...
ADAM FELBER: It is a person living or dead?
HIGGINS: Is it a person living or dead?
SAGAL: It's a living person. It's a person living quite near her.
HIGGINS: And would she be happy that she would be related to them?
SAGAL: Oh, no.
HIGGINS: Christina Aguilera.
HIGGINS: I don't know why I think that.
SAGAL: Really? That's where your mind went?
HIGGINS: I don't know why...
SAGAL: It would be horrifying to find that you're related to....
SAGAL: Oh, my God.
HIGGINS: You'd just be, like, oh, god. I didn't support her back then and...
HIGGINS: ...Still don't like her.
SAGAL: Well, let me try to help you here.
HIGGINS: OK, sorry.
SAGAL: It's somebody who we are sure she's actually very fond of.
SAGAL: She just didn't want to know that she was genetically related to him.
HIGGINS: Oh, my God. Her husband.
SAGAL: Yes, indeed.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
SAGAL: It's such a great feeling - we all know this - when you meet someone, and you have so much in common. Like, you both have brown hair. Hey, we have the same genetic disorders.
SAGAL: I love my Aunt Carol (ph). You love your mom, Carol.
HIGGINS: But it's so funny. I was at - I was, you know, doing a show in New York, and I noticed a guy in the audience. And I was, like, oh, I know him. But it turned out it was my third cousin.
HIGGINS: Yeah. And I - we had never met before. And then, you know, he was, like, I think my mom, like, came from your - it's not that unusual in Ireland because there's just eight people.
HIGGINS: But it was still a funny affinity that I felt for him when I saw him.
HIGGINS: But we didn't, you know, what - you want to say [expletive].
SAGAL: As you say in English - what do you mean, as you say?
HIGGINS: Wall (ph)?
(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "THEME TO THE PATTY DUKE SHOW (SEASON 1 OPEN)")
THE SKIP-JACKS: (Singing) But they're cousins, identical cousins all the way, one pair of matching bookends, different as night and day.
SAGAL: Coming up - down boy, down. Our panelists are having trouble with their pets. But they're lying about it. It's Bluff The Listener. Call 1-888-WAIT-WAIT to play. We'll be back in a minute with more of WAIT WAIT... DON'T TELL ME from NPR.
