Hometown: Brooklyn, New York

Genre: Global

Why We're Excited: Balún views Puerto Rican music through a kaleidoscope of electro-pop, rock, folk traditions and found sound to produce a style of music its members call "dreambow." Think of that sub-sub-genre as global music that encompasses practically the whole globe, with an emphasis on its warmest, breeziest, bounciest corners. On its second album, Prisma Tropical — that title is pretty evocative of Balún's sound in its own right — the group piles on layers of rhythm, echoes of reggaeton, playful experimentation, ethereal washes of sound and a whole lot of sprightly joy.
