Hometown: Bristol, England

Genre: Soul

Why We're Excited: Yola got into music through an intense connection to Dolly Parton records, then launched her own career by working as a guest voice for R&B and electronic acts, including Massive Attack. Now that she's got her own record — produced, it turns out, by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach — she's woven together strands of country, soul and pop to craft a sound that's both classic and current. Walk Through Fire is a who-I-am record, through and through, establishing Yola as a genre-smasher of great control and restraint.
