Hometown: Denver, Colorado

Genre: Metal

Why We're Excited: It's not as if they don't warn you right there in the title: "Dirge (For Those to Come)" opens The Munsens' new album Unhanded with eleven minutes of punishing doom metal that lurches between slow, vaguely shoegaze-y miserablism and blistering freakouts. But the band moves through all those phases with such remarkable patience and precision — such an accumulation of rumbling builds and explosive, almost operatic releases — that it's fair to wish they'd found a way to make it 10 or 15 minutes longer.
