Hometown: Hobart, Indiana

Genre: R&B

Why We're Excited: The son of Mexican immigrants, Omar Velasco financed his musical dream as a teenager by working at a McDonald's in his hometown of Hobart, Indiana. Eventually, he saved up enough money to buy a laptop, make music at home and put songs on SoundCloud and Spotify; soon, he began to develop a following for his sleek, soulful, heartache-infused love songs. Singing in both English and Spanish, Velasco — recording under the name Omar Apollo — pairs languid guitar lines to a killer falsetto in "Unbothered," which sets a woozily romantic mood in just two minutes.
