Why We're Excited: Born to itinerant parents, Celeste Waite often imbues her jazzy, soulful pop songs with a sense of estrangement and longing. "Father's Son" addresses her fraught relationship with her father, who died when she was 16, and examines the way pain is passed down through generations. There's anguished, smoky softness to Celeste's voice as she captures a cloud of ambivalence in a few plain spoken words: "Maybe I care / Maybe you don't / Maybe I'll let go / Maybe you won't."
