When we asked a handful of musicians to to pick a love song they wish they'd written, we weren't sure what we'd get. Something classic, something new? Sad songs or celebratory? For the most part, the mix we ended up with is full of joy and desire — and none of them were terribly obvious picks — from Nina Simone's 1967 song "Consummation" to Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" and Bright Eyes' "First Day of My Life."

That said, we know Valentine's Day isn't for everyone — that a lot of people see it as nothing more than a painful reminder of heartache they've been through. So we close this week's show with a new song that hasn't even been released yet from the singer Laura Veirs, whose longtime relationship recently came to an end. It's a deeply emotional and intimate cut she recorded on her phone, called, "I Was A Fool."
