- "I Will Avenge You"
- "Heather's Letters to her Mother"
Over the last decade, Becca Stevens has worked with a lot of different artists, but her solo albums are typically a solitary affair, all written, arranged and performed by herself. Her upcoming album, Wonderbloom, is a bit different. For this album she worked with more than 40 collaborators, and the result is something that's both deeply personal but also inviting.
In this session, Becca Stevens joins us in the studio and talks about how David Crosby challenged her to write what could be the most powerful song on the record. "Heather's Letter to Her Mother" is about Heather Heyer, the woman who was murdered while peacefully protesting the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Va., in 2017. We also discuss how her training as a jazz artist influences her work and what exactly a wonderbloom is. The session begins with a performance of "I Will Avenge You."
