Why We're Excited: Looking at a ukulele, the instrument shouldn't be able to do everything it does in Taimane Gardner's hands: The Hawaiian-born virtuoso and composer crafts dense, percussive jams on the instrument, in the process recalling the rapid-fire artistry of Rodrigo y Gabriela. While still a teenager, the musician was discovered by Don Ho and trained by Jake Shimabukuro. But now that her catalog runs five albums deep — the latest is titled Elemental — she's got a global reach.
