Bob Geldof is probably most famous in North America for his work as the mastermind behind Live Aid. Held in Philadelphia and London on this day in 1985, the massive benefit concert raised money to relieve famine in Ethiopia and was streamed globally via satellite. More recently, Geldof also organized the Live 8 charity concerts.

You may also know Bob Geldof as the frontman of Irish band the Boomtown Rats. For today's session, Bob Geldof joined me from his home in Kent, England, to share memories of Live Aid and to discuss a new documentary about the Boomtown Rats and Citizens of Boomtown, the first Boomtown Rats album to come out in 36 years.
