This edition of All Songs Considered opens with the music of Joe Wong, known for scoring the Netflix series Russian Doll and Master of None. Here, he's making songs celebrating the life of his father with guitarist Mary Timony.

Frances Cone singer Christina Cone was also inspired to write music for her dad, and "specifically about the Baby Boomer generation of men — men caught between the stoic upbringings of their WWII fathers and the budding cultural consciousness and self-improvement trends of the '90s."

The Front Bottoms bring back memories of concert sing-alongs, here with a song inspired by gentrification. The artist known as Spacemoth sings about the risks women take every day, and the song "Asking for You" demands that women be seen as "more than objects."

Asaf Avidan has a voice like no other, and here sings about the loss of his horse and the lifetime of grieving that came with it.

We also hear Malian musician Afel Bocoum as he sings and plays such uplifting music — despite, or perhaps because of, the poverty and struggle that fills his country.
