Hanly Banks Callahan/Courtesy of the artistBill Callahan knows how to inhabit characters that make it easier to see yourself, or someone you know, in them. You can hear it in his latest album, Gold Record, which features folks from all walks of life, including a limo driver, a guy approaching middle age, and a Ry Cooder superfan.
Callahan, who used to perform under the moniker Smog, has released more than 20 albums since 1990. We caught up with the Austin songwriter to hear his thoughts on the album, plus he shares home recordings, including 1999's "Let's Move To The Country," which he re-recorded for Gold Record.
