On this week's program, Torres cranks up the amp for her new album Thirstier, and I premiere the first track, "Don't Go Puttin Wishes In My Head." MacKenzie Scott, aka Torres, tells me that this is "the most fun song" she's ever written. We also hear music from a fun project Laura Marling and Mike Lindsay have called LUMP, a mix of electronics and Laura Marling's inspired and sometimes nonsense lyrics, for their new album's title track, "Animal."
The New York City band Caveman has its first record in five years. The album is called Smash, named after singer Matthew Iwanusa's cousin, whose death inspired songs on this record. The first new music in seven years comes from Rodrigo Amarante. The artist whose heart is in Rio de Janeiro finished his latest album in quarantine while in Los Angeles, sharing files with producer Noah Georgeson.
An artist new to me is koleżanka. It's the project of Kristina Moore, who sings and plays guitar with the percussion of Ark Calkins.
My final song of the week is from the project of Nate Amos and Rachel Brown, which they call Water From Your Eyes. The music draws inspiration from the late singer Scott Walker and painter Mark Rothko.
