I kick-off this week's show with a one-off single from Soccer Mommy. On "rom com 2004," Sophie Allison has one ear on the sounds of the early 2000s and the other warped toward the future. Los Angeles artist Hana Vu has a poetic view of life with hopes that it be more than it appears.
I have several exciting collaborations beginning with Nate Amos and Lily Konigsberg from Water From Your Eyes and Palberta, respectively. Their spunky and fun collaboration is called My Idea. Bonnie "Prince" Billy and guitarist Nathan Salsburg team up to reimagine the murder ballad "Stagger Lee," but from the perspective of the victim Billy Lyons. The collaboration is part of a podcast about murder ballads called Songs in the Key of Death.
Devendra Banhart, known for his strong voice and twisted folk music, has teamed up with his dear friend Noah Georgeson to create the calming and beautiful ambient album Refuge. And Nils Frahm and F.S. Blumm are back with their fourth collaboration; this instrumental record takes dub music to a whole new world.
