NPR IllustrationIt's been a big week for the Latin music world, so we're using this week's show to play some catch up.
A controversy erupted around the Latin Grammys just after nominations were announced. Alt.Latino host Felix Contreras sat down with Alt.Latino contributor Julyssa Lopez of Rolling Stone magazine and NPR's Ari Shapiro on NPR's All Things Considered to unpack the chisme. We're sharing the conversation on this week's episode.
Despite the controversy around surprise picks and passes, some nominations fulfilled expectations. Long-time pop rock legend Juanes picked up three nominations. We'll hear a backstage interview with him about his new album and his latest tour conducted by Alt.Latino contributor Marisa Arbona-Ruiz.
Switching gears, we also spoke with another musician who didn't make the nominees but certainly could have. José González, a Swedish musician with Argentinian roots, talks about his new album Local Valley.
Finally, every year NPR music hosts the Tiny Desk Contest, where artists from across the country are encouraged to submit videos with their own tiny desk for the chance to play the official Tiny Desk. We shared some of our favorite Latinx submissions a few weeks back.
Cuban-American Yosmel Montejo's submission caught the attention of NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro. We're bringing you her interview with him from last week's Weekend Edition Sunday.
It's an eclectic mix, but we're bringing you all the need-to-know information from across the Latin Music world.
