I have so many new songs from old favorites on this week's All Songs Considered, including the return of Mitski. After releasing her 2018 album Be The Cowboy, she began to feel the stresses of the music industry and the commodification of her work. So, she just stopped. On today's show, Mitski talks about her decision to start recording again and how it led to her new song, "Working for the Knife."
I also have a brilliant new piece from Cate Le Bon; it's a song built from two bass lines with two added saxophones that Cate says is where the grief of this song exists. Big Thief meanwhile has just released an EP that includes three other tunes they've put out so far this year, with the addition, now, of the EP's title-track, "Change."
There's a collaboration between The Walkmen's Hamilton Leithauser and Kevin Morby, as they are about to begin their U.S. tour together. Kevin and Hamilton tell us about how they created their joint song called, "Virginia Beach."
I have a wonderful new discovery from the folk foursome known as Doran, and their tune full of intimate and endearing harmonies called "Old Moon." And I close with a song on radical acceptance by Shamir called, "Gay Agenda." As he tells us, it was inspired by his producer, Hollow Comet.
