The South Korean rapper and singer CL got her start as a teen idol in the girl group 2NE1. Now, more than a decade later, she's striking out entirely on her own with a crazy-catchy, hook-packed solo album called ALPHA, out today on her own label, Very Cherry. We open this week's show with a listen and talk about CL's decision to reveal her anxieties and insecurities on the album, despite her reputation as a fearless industry warrior.

We've also got new ones from the rapper and producer Wale, Helado Negro, Grouper, a new project from Tricky called Lonely Guest and more. WBEZ and Vocalo radio DJ Ayana Contreras joins contributor Christina Lee, WXPN's John Morrison, NPR Music's Lars Gotrich and Reanna Cruz, along with host Robin Hilton as they share their picks for the best new albums out on Oct. 22.
