We begin this week's All Songs Considered with a powerful song of abuse and recovery from the frenetic British band IDLES. The song "The Beachland Ballroom" is the first new music from the group's album Crawler, which is out Nov. 12 on Partisan Records.

NPR Music's Marissa Lorusso brings us new music from the 2019 Tiny Desk contest winner Quinn Christopherson. He's a master of introspective lyrics and shining a light on identity and gender, and "Bubblegum" takes his sound to expansive heights. Another Tiny Desk Contest family member is Anjimile. He also brings us a song dealing with his gender identity, his past and present self, and his medical transition that is both liberating and alarming. The new song, "Stranger," is his first for the label 4AD.

mehro is one of my top new artists of 2021, and he has a new song. mehro tells us that he "doesn't show people his feelings, so the best way to express myself is through my music." mehro does this so eloquently in his new song, "howling."

The last three tunes come from new artists, beginning with the Stockholm-based singer Anna Leone and her song "Still I Wait," which deals with the need to break from old patterns. Then, Scout LaRue Willis expresses feelings to the person she was heartbroken over in her song "Love Without Possession." And Chloe Lilac, who has been making music and posting it on SoundCloud since she was a pre-teen, tells us what it's like to be on the cusp of her second decade in the song "19."
