I'm thrilled to announce a new Big Thief double album on this edition of All Songs Considered. The album title, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, is a clue to the imaginative scope of this February 2022 release. You'll get a better sense of that when I play the song "Time Escaping." There's also a fifth album coming from Pinegrove in 2022 called 11-11. It's a concept album of sorts, as Evan Stephens Hall tells us on today's show. We hear the song "Alaska," about flying diagonally across the country and seeing patterns in cornrows, trees, and more, all resembling the shape of the number "1."

Maia Friedman, who you may know from Dirty Projectors or from her band CoCo's recent release, has her first solo album coming. It's called Under the New Light and from it I'll play the song "Where the Rocks Are." The Texas band Why Bonnie plays a song that writer and singer Blair Howerton says is an ode to Galveston, Texas. The beach town holds childhood memories for her. This song taps into her fear of losing those precious memories.

A new project that includes two members of Snarky Puppy is called Mirrors. Justin Stanton conceived of the project as a way to bring musicians and composers together and have each member write a new song in collaboration with another member of the group, including Becca Stevens, Gisela João, Louis Cato & Michael League.

I end the show with a Somali-born, London-based artist known as FACESOUL. His music relies on the voice, not instruments, to carry the song and the message. The tune I love, called "The Path," has an even deeper meaning than I imagined, honoring a dear friend who died when this music was recorded.
