Set List

  • "Nobody Knows"
  • "Like A Ship"
  • "Father I Stretch My Hands"
  • "I Shall Wear A Crown"

Pastor Barrett began the Youth For Christ Choir in the late '60s, gathering young people to sing gospel music with a modern, funky, soulful twist. They released their first album, Like A Ship (Without A Sail) in 1971, and in the five decades since the music they made has empowered so many, and was ultimately rediscovered by the likes of Kanye West and Radiohead. Last fall, 50 years after that first record was released, a definitive five-album box set of Pastor T. L. Barrett & The Youth for Christ Choir's music was released, called I Shall Wear A Crown.

In this session, Pastor T. L. Barrett joins me for an inspiring conversation, and we'll hear songs from that collection – beginning with "Nobody Knows."
