The most beautiful song I've heard in 2022 startsthis week's episode of All Songs Considered: Florist's "Red Bird Pt. 2 (Morning)," a song about holding the dualities of life. "The nature sounds, the birds, the wind it was all alive with us on the porch as we recorded," Emily Sprague says.

New music from Joan Shelley was recorded in a time of both close connection and isolation; she was also seven months pregnant. Shelley wrote "The Spur" with Nathan Salsburg, her longtime bandmate and now husband, about the people in her life who kept her engaged in a time of paralysis.

I have a number of artists that are new to me that have thrilling new songs, including Dana Gavanski, dani mack, and my favorite new band name, Sadurn.

There's an overwhelmingly powerful new tune from The Hold Steady's Craig Finn: "Messing With the Settings," from his fifth solo album, is a commemoration and ode to a lost friend. I close out the show with the Medicine Singers; a mix of traditional powwow music mixed with sonic textures. "Daybreak" is sung in a dialect of the Eastern Algonquin that only about 10 people fluently speak. The collaboration includes guitarist Yonatan Gat, Thor Harris, Laraaji, and was produced by Ryan Olsen of Gayngs.
