It's been a decade since singer and guitarist Angel Olsen released her debut album, Half Way Home. On her latest release, Big Time, she processes agonizing grief following the death of both parents, all while discovering new and true love. On this week's show we talk about Olsen's deft lyricism, the ways she channels classic pop-folk from the late-'60s and '70s and dig deeper into themes of loss and identity. But first we open the show with a stellar new album from Fantastic Negrito called White Jesus Black Problems. Contributor Christina Lee joins WXPN's John Morrison, NPR Music editor Marissa Lorusso and host Robin Hilton as they share their picks for the best new albums out on June 3.
