Lars Gotrich, our resident Viking, opens this week's All Songs Considered with Daisies. The Olympia band splits the difference between two sides of the '90s: college radio airwaves and lite-pop FM. It's fun to play spot-the-influence on Daisies' record Great Big Open Sky — some of The Sundays here, Portishead and Everything But the Girl there and many catchy nuggets are hidden throughout.

I'll play a profoundly personal new song from Anna B Savage about being haunted by a former lover. The song "The Ghost" is from the U.K. singer's new album, inFLUX.

Pest Control is unlike the others here, a crossover thrash band from Leeds, U.K., steeped in classic Slayer and Metallica but with a modern sheen akin to Power Trip. This is, without a doubt, a very Viking's Choice pick.

The author Neil Gaiman has teamed up with Australia's FourPlay String Quartet, bringing his stories to life. This collaboration illustrates the tale of Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington, the astrophysicist who verified Einstein's general theory of relativity.

Lars turns me on to the Mohamad Zatari Trio with the guiding light coming from the bandleader himself: "The future for someone is a tradition for someone else." In a mix of oud, tar and tabla, the trio melds cultures and traditions to mess with them.

I'll take us out on a sonically meditative track from three brilliant collaborators, Vijay Iyer, Arooj Aftab and Shahzad Ismaily. Together this new project is called Love In Exile, and I'll play the song "To Remain/To Return."
