This week's All Songs Considered episode kicks off with new music from Palehound. Their new song "Independence Day" was appropriately timed for the Fourth of July holiday; singer El Kempner tells me it's about a breakup that, in fact, happened on Independence Day. Their new album, Eye on the Bat, produced with Sam Evian, is out this Friday, July 14.

Forty years ago, the brilliant Talking Heads concert film directed by Jonathan Demme, Stop Making Sense, was released. Now a deluxe 4K version of that film is coming to theaters, along with a new Dolby Atmos version of the album. The Aug. 18 release includes some music not part of the original package, including the song "Cities." Another legend from the past is being celebrated. Leon Russell — the brilliant songwriter and musician who played, wrote or produced over 400 recordings with artists including Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and Elton John — is celebrated on a new album called A Song For Leon. Artists covering Leon's songs on this new record include Bootsy Collins, Pixies, Orville Peck, Nathaniel Rateliff and Margo Price. I play the latter's version of Leon Russell's "Strangers in a Strange Land."

I have a beautiful collaboration between the Berlin-based Polish composer Hania Rani and American-born, Canadian-based Patrick Watson called "Dancing with Ghosts." The music on Hania Rani's new album, Ghosts, has hints of the ambient piano sounds of Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds. We go from Ghosts to new music from Laufey and her upcoming album, Bewitched. Laufey is a Los Angeles-based Icelandic-Chinese artist I'm loving for her delicate poetic music and you'll hear the song "Promise."

Our final song is a good rocking number from Margaret Glaspy. The snappy guitar lick for her new song "Act Natural" immediately got my attention. The New York-based artist's third album, Echo The Diamond, is produced with her partner, guitarist Julian Lage.
