I think we're about to turn you on to a handful of "witchy women." The 'we' in this case is guests Hazel Cills and Marissa Lorusso. And while we didn't approach the show with a theme, we found our choices had many eerily similar characteristics that were spellbinding, spooky, adventurous and entrancing. We begin with Mary Jane Dunphe, who has been in a whole host of projects, including the punk band Vexx, the country rock project Country Liners and the Olympia group CCFX. But now she's set to release a solo album, out Aug. 25, and the spellbinding "Stage of Love" is its first single.

"When A Plant Is Dying" is one of two lead singles from Squirrel Flower's new album, Tomorrow's Fire, out Oct. 13. It's a brooding and beautiful song about how grueling it can be to try to make a living as an artist.

I've been entranced by how Saya Gray's music pivots from moment to moment. It could be an ambient piano that draws you in and then you're hit with an aggressive drum punch from outer space. In the two minutes of "DIZZY PPL BECOME BLURRY," from her new record QWERTY, Saya Gray chucks ideas at the wall, and whether they stick or slip, she finds a way to make it all work.

The theatrical artist SPELLLING has a new song out: a grand reimagining of her 2019 track "Under the Sun," which turns the original, minimalist synth-pop into a song fit for a stage musical. The track is from the forthcoming album SPELLLING & the Mystery School, out Aug. 25, on which she reworks tracks with her live touring band.

Josaleigh Pollett is a singer and songwriter from Salt Lake City, Utah, who just released an impressive album called In The Garden, By The Weeds. Their song "Empty Things" features contributions from a member of fellow Utah band Little Moon, who won this year's Tiny Desk Contest.

Israeli singer and actress Sivan Levy weaves a beautiful tale on her song "Jacaranda" of a tree releasing its beautiful purple leaves each year on her birthday so she can lay on this beautiful gift of nature. The song is from her EP side:s.

And we end with a pleasant surprise from Big Thief, one many first heard in a live performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The song "Vampire Empire" has been making its way on to many fans Tiktok videos in anticipation of its release. And now it's here.
