When Digable Planets released "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)" in 1993, the song blew up in popularity and the group was hailed as a sort of new, alternative hip-hop.

A year later, Digable Planets released their second and final album, called Blowout Comb, and World Cafe correspondent John Morrison says it went in a completely new direction.

"I don't know if Blowout Comb is intentionally pushing back against that, but it definitely has a rougher kind of edge to it," he says.
