Threadless + NPR T-Shirt Design Challenge
Threadless to Host T-Shirt Design Challenge with NPR
Themed "My Sound World," the Art of Public Radio Listening Drives Submissions, Open to Public Vote at threadless.com/npr
August 5, 2013; Washington, D.C. — Threadless, the global design community, and NPR are bringing a new design challenge to the Threadless community of artists and art enthusiasts. Launching today, the three-week challenge – "My Sound World" – calls on artists to create a t-shirt design inspired by NPR and public radio – the sounds and stories that inform, surprise, engage and delight. Through their designs, artists will depict their personal experiences with NPR and public radio, and how listening enhances their lives and keeps them connected to a global community.
Artists can submit their designs to threadless.com/npr for three weeks, while the Threadless community votes on the designs. After submissions have closed on August 26, 2013, the community will have an additional week to vote on designs in the challenge. Once a winning design is chosen, that artist will receive $2,000 cash, an NPR limited edition Peter Max iSongBook, an autographed copy of the book This is NPR, a $500 Threadless gift code, and a private tour of NPR's new headquarters in Washington, D.C.
"NPR is an incredible resource to stay up to speed in the fast-paced world around us," says Threadless CEO Jake Nickell, "We're all huge fans of NPR and the content they bring to the ears of so many people. With all of the avid NPR listeners over here at Threadless, the idea of a collaboration between NPR and the Threadless community just made so much sense."
T-shirts of the winning design will be sold on Threadless.com, with a portion of proceeds benefitting NPR and public radio stations identified by the artist. The winning T-shirt design will also be sold in the NPR Shop, where every purchase supports NPR programming.
"We're always amazed to see the creativity that NPR inspires in our listeners," says Barbara Sopato, NPR Director, E-Commerce and Consumer Products. "There's something about the act of listening – it gives you the space to spark imagination."
