March 3, 2015; Washington, D.C. – NPR Music returns to Austin this month for a smorgasbord of breakfast tacos and music discovery during the annual South by Southwest Music Conference and Festival. This is the eighth year that the NPR Music team will offer the SXSW experience to those on 6th St. and those living the dream remotely. Coverage begins now at npr.org/sxsw and from public radio stations KCRW, KUNC, KUTX, KKXT, The Current, WXPN/World Cafe, WFUV and stations across the country, with the redesigned Austin 100 mix available as a soundtrack.

Public radio is hosting live performances for audiences at SXSW including NPR Music's official SXSW showcase at Stubb's. Video of these performances will be available to watch on-demand at npr.org/music following the showcase. The opening-night event this year brings together influential rockers TV On The Radio, recently out with their fifth album Seeds; internationally-recognized Belgian dance music sensation Stromae, whose U.S. tour in support of his critically-acclaimed album Racine Carrée begins in April and continues through fall 2015; Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett, who yesterday released a new track off her forthcoming album Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit; 20-year-old Las Vegas dance music artist Shamir, known for his "distinctive and arresting" vocals; and Compton-born rapper Boogie, named by NPR Music as one of the newcomers exemplifying a "sea change" in the genre.

On Friday, March 20, public radio stations around the country together host the Public Radio Day Stage showcase. Additional live broadcasts, panel events and performances are happening throughout the week; see below for a schedule and details.

Over the coming weeks, npr.org/sxsw will feature all of NPR Music's extensive SXSW 2015 coverage - daily highlights, podcasts, videos, photos and more. All Songs Considered hosts Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton; Microphone Check hosts Frannie Kelley and Ali Shaheed Muhammad; Felix Contreras from Alt.Latino; writer/editor Stephen Thompson; writer/critic Ann Powers; and others from the NPR Music team will offer the latest news and insights about the festival at the NPR Music website and on social media. Follow @nprmusic on Twitter and Instagram, and NPR Music on Facebook, Tumblr and Snapchat.

Also out today is the Austin 100 mix, a web app designed by NPR's award-winning Visuals team and loaded loaded with NPR Music's picks for 100 bands to discover at SXSW this year. Completely reformatted for 2015, the new Austin 100 allows users to create a personalized sub-list of songs and download individual tracks for free. The Austin 100 is available to stream on TV screens via Chromecast and can be saved to any mobile home screen for easy access. Visit npr.org/austin100 to begin listening.

Since 2008, NPR Music and stations have broadcast and webcast a slew of concerts from SXSW, introducing audiences to Sleigh Bells, St. Vincent and Vampire Weekend alongside Café Tacuba Damon Albarn, Fiona Apple, Nick Cave, Raphael Saadiq, R.E.M. and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Past concerts, along with artist interviews and live audio and video performance sessions, are archived at: npr.org/sxsw. NPR Music collaborates with NPR's newsmagazines, public radio member stations and the passionate NPR community to celebrate great music in every genre. Visit npr.org/music for more videos, as well as extensive archives of concerts, interviews and playlists of artists from all genres.
