NPR Music Releases Tiny Desk Concert Performance By Contest Winner Fantastic Negrito
March 9, 2015; Washington, D.C. – NPR Music's first-ever Tiny Desk Concert Contest resulted in nearly 7,000 creative music video entries and now, one new video in the popular NPR Music series. As the Contest winner, blues-rock musician Fantastic Negrito was invited to perform at the renowned workspace-turned-stage; a video of the set is available to watch now at npr.org/music.
Fantastic Negrito, the music project of Oakland-based artist Xavier Dphrepaulezz (Dee-FREP-ah-lez), and his band play three original songs in the video: "Lost In A Crowd," "Night Has Turned To Day" and "An Honest Man." Musicians Tomas Salcedo (The Chilean), Ruthie Price, Matt Roads and LJ Holoman joined Fantastic Negrito for the Tiny Desk Concert performance, recorded on February 26, 2015 at NPR Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Fantastic Negrito's winning entry can be found here, along with additional details about Contest, which set out to find an undiscovered, unsigned musician to bring to the Tiny Desk stage.
As the winner, Fantastic Negrito will go on to perform at the Couchtrippin' to Austin showcase on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Charles Bradley, King Tuff, Delta Spirit and Heartless Bastards are also part of the event, produced by Contest supporter Lagunitas Brewing Company.
