September 21, 2017; Washington, D.C. - NPR Music is joining the roster of engaging and thought-provoking events at this year's Future of Storytelling Festival with an opening-night live music experience hosted by Bob Boilen, featuring John Paul White, formerly of the duo The Civil Wars. On Friday, October 6, the All Songs Considered podcast host and creator of the popular Tiny Desk concert series will chat with the Grammy Award-winning musician about songs that changed their lives.

Following this conversation exclusively for Festival guests, Tiny Desk alum John Paul White will treat audience members to a performance with his band featuring songs from his new Southern folk album, Beulah, which NPR Music described as "fresh sonic adventurousness."

For more than 16 years, Bob Boilen has established All Songs Considered as a must-listen show and guided listeners towards their new favorite musical discoveries. The acclaimed weekly program – available as streaming audio, a podcast and a broadcast – melds contemporary music, live concerts, videos and artist interviews to offer a truly eclectic mix.

Since its launch in 2008, nearly 600 performances have been recorded at the Tiny Desk, Boilen's festive workspace at NPR Headquarters adorned with years of music mementos and memorabilia. The series has provided a stage for artists from across the genre spectrum to perform and tell their stories — pop balladeer Adele, R&B sensation (with or without the Auto-Tune) T-Pain, Latin star Carrie Rodriguez, singer-songwriter Julien Baker, jazz legends Chick Corea and Gary Burton, genre-busting drummer and singer Anderson .Paak, blues hitmaker William Bell, country singer Margo Price, classic rocker Graham Nash, inventive violinist Rachel Barton Pine, even the Blue Man Group.
