NPR Broadcasts Gala Symphonic Concert Live June 2

WASHINGTON, DC - On Tuesday, June 2nd at 8:00 p.m. EDT, NPR's Performance Today® will present "A Fond Farewell to David Zinman," a special live broadcast of a gala concert honoring the longtime conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, who's stepping down this year to take over the Aspen Festival. Please check with your local NPR station for broadcast times.

Joining Zinman on this live broadcast will be three of today's top soloists, all well-known to public radio listeners: cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Emanuel Ax, and violinist Pamela Frank. Each will play a solo concert piece in the first half, and in the second half of the program, Ma, Ax, and Frank will join forces to play Ludwig van Beethoven's "Triple" Concerto with David Zinman conducting the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

The evening concert will also feature a live intermission interview with the three soloists — Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, and Pamela Frank, as well as a look at Zinman's remarkable 13-year career with the Baltimore Symphony. Excerpts from the June 2 concert, along with an interview with David Zinman, will appear on the regular edition of NPR's Performance Today on June 3.

Through his million-selling CD of Henryk Gorecki's Symphony No. 3, multiple Grammy awards, and public-radio series featuring the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, David Zinman is one of the most highly acclaimed and visible figures in the classical-music world. This concert marks one of Zinman's final appearances with the orchestra he has lead to international prominence.

Now in its second decade, NPR's Performance Today features exclusive recordings of concert performances from around the world, as well as in-depth reporting on the classical music scene. NPR's Performance Today is heard by 1.5 million Americans every week on more than 200 public radio stations nationwide.
