Hawaii Race A Breeze For Inouye

After the July death of Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV), Daniel Inouye, 86, is the senior member of the Senate and, in fact, is the Senate president pro tempore -- fourth in the line of presidential succession. Inouye (D), who is 86 years old, first elected in 1962 and chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, is seeking his ninth term. He is unbeatable at home, only once (1992) finishing with less than 60 percent of the vote. The Republican nominee is Cam Cavasso, a businessman and former state legislator. -Ken Rudin
