Schumer Has Little To Fear In New York

Charles Schumer, first elected in 1998, is seeking a third term. The Democrat from Brooklyn is a legendary fundraiser who has had a love affair with the TV cameras ever since his first election to the House in 1980. But he found himself in the uncomfortable position of fighting for coverage after Hillary Clinton was elected to the Senate from New York in 2000. With Clinton gone, off to Foggy Bottom, Schumer is the dominant politician in the state. Jay Townsend, a communications consultant who upset former CIA operative (and Tea Party favorite) Gary Berntsen in the primary, is Schumer's overmatched Republican opponent.
