Smooth Sailing For Conservative Powerhouse DeMint

Jim DeMint (R) was first elected in 2004 and is seeking a second term. He has become a major force in national conservative politics, endorsing candidates around the country, often picking ones who are running against those considered part of the GOP establishment. If he seems to be ignoring his own bid for another term, it's no wonder. The Democratic nominee, Army veteran Alvin Greene, won the June primary even though he spent no money, assembled no staff and did negligible campaigning. After the primary, it was revealed that he was arrested in November and charged with showing obscene Internet photos to a college student. -Ken Rudin
