Loud Debate Rages Over N.Y. Library's Quiet Stacks

A renovation plan for the New York Public Library building on Manhattan's 42nd Street is being hotly contested. The plan calls for demolishing seven floors of stacks and moving many of the books to New Jersey. Supporters say the plan will salvage a strapped library system; critics say it will imperil the work of researchers.

Suspect In Etan Patz Case Was 'A Quiet Man'

The man who confessed to killing 6-year-old Etan Patz in 1979 is expected to be arraigned on Friday. New York City police say Pedro Hernandez admitted to luring the boy into a neighborhood grocery store, choking him and stuffing his body into a trash bag. There are numerous questions regarding the validity of Hernandez's confession and whether prosecutors have evidence that would corroborate his story.

Families Protest Burying Remains At 9/11 Memorial

Families of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks are at odds with officials over how to handle the unidentified remains of those killed at the World Trade Center. Officials have been planning to place them in bedrock underneath the memorial in New York City. But families say the memorial is not a graveyard and they should be the ones to make the decision on a final resting place. The dispute comes days after news that remains from some unidentified victims were dumped in landfills.
