Shaham and Eguchi Play Fauré, Live at NPR

August 30, 2004 • Gabriel Fauré is somewhat of an unsung hero among classical composers. Gil Shaham and Akira Eguchi have made it their personal mission to improve Fauré's standing among composers. The pair played duets and talk with Fred Child.

August 30, 2004 • Chinese-American pianist Lang Lang stopped by NPR's Studio 4A for a recital and a discussion with Performance Today's Fred Child. Lang Lang held his first concert at age 5. In this session, he played a variety of classics, as well as a traditional Chinese folksong.

The Bach Partitas with Richard Goode

August 30, 2004 • With the release of his latest three CDs, Pianist Richard Goode has now recorded all six Bach Partitas. Fred Child of Performance today visited with Goode to talk about each one of these remarkable dances. The Partitas were among J.S. Bach's very first published works.

On Location with the Shanghai Quartet

August 30, 2004 • In the tradition of Bartok and Copland, who revitalized classical music by introducing folk themes into their work, the Shanghai Quartet has recently started playing several Chinese folk songs. Fred Child goes on location for a private recital NPR member station WCVE in Richmond, Virginia.

August 16, 2004 • We open a week of performances and conversations from La Jolla SummerFest, the annual classical music festival in San Diego, California. Fred Child is on location in La Jolla all week with performances from a variety of musicians. Today, we begin with a quartet made up of violinists Leila Josefowicz and Cho-Liang Lin, violist Paul Neubauer, and cellist Haie-Ye Ni (high-yay nee). They play, along with a pre-recorded sound track, two of the "Alleged Dances" by John Adams.
