Blair Denies Rift over Iraq

British Prime Minister Tony Blair denies being at odds with the Bush administration, a day after saying the interim government set to rule Iraq after June 30 should have "final political control" over multinational troops there. The United States and Britain prepare a draft U.N. Security Council resolution on Iraq that would endorse the installation of an interim Iraqi government on June 30. The United States and Britain circulate a proposed resolution on Iraq to the U.N. Security Council that would transfer sovereignty to an interim Iraqi government on June 30 and give U.N. approval for the presence of U.S. and other foreign troops in Iraq. The draft proposal has received fairly positive responses from other members of the Council, though some are concerned that it would not give enough power the Iraqi interim government. Sanctions Imposed on Syria

President Bush imposes economic sanctions on Syria, saying the country supports terrorism and has failed to stop anti-U.S. guerrillas from entering Iraq. The new sanctions prohibit all U.S. exports to Syria except food and medicine, ban Syrian flights to and from the United States, and restrict relations between U.S. banks and Syria's National Bank. No Changes on U.S. Terrorism Sponsors List

The State Department releases its annual report on international terrorism. The official list of "state sponsors" is unchanged, though Libya and Iraq might soon be taken off the list.
