White House Struggles with Jobs Outsourcing Criticism February 13, 2004 As the White House responded to media questions about President Bush's military service records, the administration had another political headache to deal with this week. The President's top economic adviser, Greg Mankiw, said the outsourcing of jobs overseas was "probably a plus for the economy in the long run." His comments provoked criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, concerned about the number of jobs lost since the President took office. Mankiw yesterday said he didn't mean to praise the shifting of American jobs abroad. NPR's White House correspondent Don Gonyea says the controversy highlights the disconnect between economics and politics.
