Bush Visits Ohio, Cites Need for Bigger Tax Cut

President Bush told audiences in two Ohio cities today the nation needed a far larger tax cut than Congress is poised to approve -- and right away. The president was in the home state of Republican Sen. George Voinovich, whose vote was crucial in cutting the tax cut proposal in half. NPR's Don Gonyea reports.

Bush to Lobby Public on Taxes

Backed by high public approval ratings for his handling of the war in Iraq, President Bush will try to pressure Congress into granting a proposed round of tax cuts. The President and several Cabinet members take to the road this week to drum up support for the plan, which has run into significant opposition in the Senate and among some Republicans. As part of a media campaign in war-torn Iraq, President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair address the Iraqi people in pre-taped messages transmitted from a U.S. Air Force plane and broadcast on Iraqi TV.
