National Whitman Quits EPA Post May 21, 2003 Christie Whitman, head of the Environmental Protection Agency, says she will resign at the end of June to return to her family in New Jersey. Whitman was a moderate member of the Bush Cabinet, but also came under frequent criticism by environmental groups. National Tax Cut Plan Passes Senate May 16, 2003 By a 51-49 vote, the Senate approves a plan to cut individual income taxes and some business levies by $350 billion dollars over the next 10 years.
