Joe O'Connor has been the President and CEO of WFAE — Charlotte, North Carolina's NPR News Source, for the last seven years. During that time, WFAE has earned both numerous awards for its local journalism as well as grown its annual revenue, audience, and staff. It has increased the diversity of its listeners, Board of Directors, Community Advisory Board, executive team, on-air hosts, reporters, sources, and vendors. WFAE is now among the region's most respected multi-platform media companies boasting popular podcasts, e-newsletters, and a substantial newsroom.
Prior to his move to WFAE, O'Connor served as the founding General Manager of Rhode Island Public Radio. Previously he was a five-time Emmy Award winning producer at ABC News for 22 years. O'Connor holds an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and a master's in broadcast journalism from Boston University. In 2004, he became a Nieman Journalism Fellow at Harvard University.
