Embedded Player Noah talks with Deborah Layton, author of "Seductive Poison: A Jonestown Survivor's Story of Life and Death in the People's Temple." 20 years ago tomorrow, the Reverend Jim Jones led more than 900 of his followers to their deaths in the jungles of Guyana. Layton had escaped Jonestown several months before, and tried to alert authorities to the insanity and cruelty of life under the rule of Jim Jones. The mass killing took place after Jones ordered several of his followers to murder Congressman Leo Ryan, who'd just concluded a fact-finding trip to Jonestown with an NBC news crew. (Note: "Seductive Poison" by Deborah Layton is published by Anchor Books.)
