Much of the United States experienced a solar eclipse Monday [04/08], an astronomical phenomenon where the moon passes between the earth and the sun and causes temporary darkness. Although the spectacle couldn't be seen from Alaska, folks in Kenai had the opportunity to experience the eclipse in a different way; and a bill that would allow disabled veterans a free lifetime pass to Alaska state parks and campsites is moving through the legislature.

A third candidate is running for the Alaska State House district that includes the southern Kenai Peninsula and Kasilof. The Kenai Peninsula Borough is continuing to seek solutions for a school in the South Peninsula village of Kachemak Selo, Borough Mayor Peter Micciche said in a report to the Borough Assembly last week.

The Homer City Council heard a legislative update from Rep. Sarah Vance and passed multiple items during its meeting last night. Audience members can take a trip down the rabbit hole as the Seward High School Theatre Collective puts on performances of "Alice in Wonderland." For the first time, money from ticket sales and revenue coming in from passengers using the Alaska Marine Highway System will be used to fund ferry and marine highway projects across the state.
