Orgone in Oregon and more, in April Rogue Sounds

There's exactly ONE voiced vowel in pronouncing "Oregon." And it's that first O... the last syllable is supposed to sound like "ghin." So it turned us upside down when the leadoff band for this month's edition of Rogue Sounds with Josh Gross turned out to be "Orgone." You can guess how to pronounce THAT name. The band lights up the stage at Bruno's Cavern in Cave Junction this weekend, just one of several musical events we'll highlight in our monthly visit with Josh. Hear the music in advance, as we explore the Rogue Sounds master list for April. Here's the list for April: 4/9 - Orgone at Bruno's Cavern in Cave Junction 4/12 - Vertycan Arc Materializer at JB's in Medford 4/14 - Hutchie at Local 31 in Ashland 4/16 - California Honeydrops at Ashland Armory 4/27 - No Lights at The Dip in Redding

Koffin Kats and more, in the latest Rogue Sounds, with Josh Gross

We get a quick lesson in "psychobilly" on this month's edition of Rogue Sounds, with music maker and critic Josh Gross. If you've heard of rockabilly (think Stray Cats), just turn the volume up to 11. It's a genre played by the band Koffin Kats, playing a gig in Medford on the first full day of Spring (March 21st). We hear music from this band and others when Josh Gross visits to pick the highlights of music gigs for the month. The full roster: Robert Wynia Trio, Saturday March 25 at Sunnyside in Roseburg Koffin Kats, Tuesday March 21 at Johnny B's in Medford Hooveriii, Wednesday March 29 at The Dip in Redding Hippie Death Cult, Friday March 24 at The Dip in Redding

Beyond the groundhog

You might remember the light pop or swingy versions of "I've got you under my skin." by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and Frank Sinatra. Now you get to hear it--done big--in the vocal chords of Oregon's own Storm Large. She's just one musical act touring the region in the month of February. Josh Gross, a music creator, writer, and critic, follows the music scene in the region and chooses five musical acts to feature in our monthly visit. This month's list: Storm Large, Feb. 25 at the Craterian, Medford. Sunwell, Feb. 24 at Sunnyside Theater in Roseburg. Beats Antique, Feb. 8 at Historic Ashland Armory. Black Joe Lewis, Feb. 14 at The Dip in Redding. Tall Heights, Feb. 10 at Rogue Theatre, Grants Pass.
