The NPR Music App Gets An Upgrade, You Get 12 Free Songs

Version 2.0 of the NPR Music app for iPhone and iPod Touch.
NPR

An upgraded version of the NPR Music app for iPhone and iPod Touch was released today. It features more Tiny Desk Concert videos, our music blogs (including this one) and a new home screen navigation that better organizes our features. It also features one-tap access to music streams, including the new All Songs 24/7 Music Channel.

If you download or upgrade the app now you'll automatically get a free 12-song sampler featuring music from some of our favorite new artists and discoveries of 2010. Everyone at NPR Music contributed their picks. Check out the track list below. (The sampler will also be available for free on the NPR Music website to all of our U.S. users next week, so don't worry if you don't have an iPhone.)

  • Aloe Blacc, "You Make Me Smile"
  • Archie Bronson, "Outfit Hoola"
  • Buke and Gass, "Revel In Contempt"
  • Flying Lotus, "Do the Astral Plane"
  • Jeremy Messersmith, "The Reluctant Graveyard"
  • Lost in the Trees, "All Alone In an Empty House"
  • Lower Dens, "I Get Nervous"
  • Rita Indiana & Los Misterios, "El Juidero"
  • Rudresh Mahanthappa & Bunky Green, "Summit"
  • Sharon Van Etten, "One Day"
  • Sondra Radvanovsky, "Il trovatore"
  • Stile Antico, "Ave Maria"

These aren't the last improvements you'll see. Planned changes and upgrades for 2011 include song information display while you're listening to streams, live concert videos, off-line listening and expanding to other devices.

Update for you Android users: Don't worry, we haven't forgotten about you. We are working on a version of our app for Android. The development hit a snag, but we are trying to release something in the next few months. In the meantime, a lot of our features and streams can be enjoyed in the NPR News app for Android. (And if you want to help us develop the NPR Music app for Android--reach out!)
