Los Amparito is the name of a popular Mexican sandwich sold on an alley in Guadalajara. It is also the name of one of Mexico's most promising new acts. This is the project led by Carlos Pesina, a prolific engineer making some of the most colorful music in Latin America's electro-folk scene. In the last couple of years, multiple songs by Los Amparito have circulated on the Web; a couple of them became instant indie hits across the continent. All this attention is quite extraordinary given that Los Amparito hasn't released an actual album yet.
The buzz surrounding the debut album is increasing over time, and this might be the year the band takes on the world. The songs are deliciously stylized with layers of traditional Mexican music. The material references vanguard bands like Animal Collective and Panda Bear, but the backbone belongs to '60s Mexican folk singer Amparo Ochoa. Los Amparito has sampled Ochoa's farmer songs on multiple occasions, and the results have been respectfully sublime.
The band's cross-generational aesthetics are best visualized on their latest video "4500 Millones De Años De Soledad" ("4500 Million Years Of Solitude"), directed by Jaiziel Hernandez Maynez. The people in these home movies are heartwarming. Civilian and military footage balance each other, framing a world of audiovisual poetry.

Los Amparito: 4500 Millones De Años De Soledad
Los Amparito es el nombre de una popular tienda de sándwiches en un callejón de Guadalajara. También es el apodo de uno de los jóvenes músicos más interesantes de México hoy en día. Se trata de un proyecto liderado por Carlos Pesina, un prolífico ingeniero que ha creado algunas de las canciones electro-folklóricas mas coloridas de los últimos tiempos. En años recientes, múltiples canciones de Los Amparito han circulado en la Internet; algunas de ellas se han convertido en éxitos indie a lo largo del continente. Toda esta atención es extraordinaria teniendo en cuenta que hasta el día de hoy, Los Amparito jamás han publicado un álbum.
Cada vez hay más interés en un álbum debut, y tal vez el 2011 sea el año en el cual la banda finalmente se presenta ante el mundo en todo su esplendor. Las canciones de Los Amparitos contienen varias capas de música tradicional mexicana, y referencias a bandas vanguardistas como Animal Collective y Panda Bear. Pero el alma musical del proyecto es el sonido de Amparo Ochoa, cantante folklórica Mexicana de la década de 1960.
