How Do You Get To Carnegie Hall? Answer: A 'Big Break'
Remember the old quote: "How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice."
Well, these days, along with all the practicing, you would have to add, "submit audition video on YouTube."
That's exactly what hundreds of young musicians did this fall for the "Big Break," the online contest presented by the producers of NPR's classical radio program for kids, From the Top, hosted by Christopher O'Riley, and Carnegie Hall.
From a pool of more than 400 video submissions, just 15 teenaged finalists remain. They range from pianists and violinists to bassists and even a marimbist. You can watch their videos here and cast a vote (before Dec. 15) for your favorite performance.
The winner gets a spot on From the Top and a featured performance at a Carnegie Hall Family Concert next spring.
