This Week's ScuttleButton Winner: Pat Block of Santa Fe, N.M.

If the next Congress, in the zeal to punish NPR for untold sins, does indeed cut all funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, what will be the end result?

No more ScuttleButton.

Is that what America really wants?

Actually, what America really wants is the answer to last week's puzzle.  These were the buttons:

Repeal O'Neill (picture of Tip O'Neill) — O'Neill, then a Massachusetts congressman and the Democratic speaker of the House, was the object of Republican ire during the 1980 and 1982 elections.

Tow Away Lindsay — While NYC Mayor Lindsay was stepping up a policy of towing away illegally parked cars during his tenure in the 1960s, some voters wanted Lindsay himself towed away in his 1969 re-election bid.

My Man Is True — True Davis sought the Democratic Senate nomination from Missouri in 1968, losing to Tom Eagleton and second-place finisher Edward Long, the incumbent.

Re-elect D2 in '82 — That's for David Durenberger, the Minnesota Republican senator who was re-elected that year.

Kiss Me I'm for Rothman Gov. 84 — Kenneth Rothman was the Democratic nominee for governor of Missouri in 1984 but lost to John Ashcroft.

And so, when you add Tip + Tow + True + D2 + Lips, you might end up with ...

Tiptoe Through the Tulips.  Perhaps the most annoying song sung by the most annoying singer in history.  Tiny Tim regularly appeared on the TV show "Laugh In" in the 1960s, one of the many things that made the 1960s so unbelievably awful.

Ah, memories.  In any event, this week's winner, chosen completely at random, is (drum roll) ... Pat Block of Santa Fe, N.M.
