House Vote To Reprimand Rangel Fails Big; Censure Vote, Likely To Pass, Is Next

After an hour of debate on the merits of censuring Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) for violating House rules, the House has defeated an amendment offered by Rangel defender G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.) that called for a reprimand instead of a censure.

The vote was 146 for reprimand, 267 against.  Most telling was the fact that 105 Democrats voted against the measure.

The House is now voting on censure, which is all but assured of passing.
