In the final report of a four-part NPR/National Geographic Radio Expedition to Mali, Chadwick descends into one of the biggest salt mines in the Sahara Desert, where West African miners still extract salt by hand, the way it's been done for centuries. Study: Opportunity Abounds for Risk-Taking in Teens

Nearly one in five adolescents has had sex before the age of 15, a new report by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy says. The study also finds that parents of one-third of those sexually active adolescents know their teenagers have had sex. In the second report in a series on the sexual behavior of young teens, NPR's Vicky Que says parents and communities play a part in risk-taking behavior.

Bremer Arrives in Basra

U.S. Official in Iraq to Leave

Barbara Bodine, the U.S. official assigned to govern central Iraq, will leave her post and return to the United States to take a position at the State Department. The move comes just days after the top civilian administrator in Iraq, retired Gen. Jay Garner, is replaced by L. Paul Bremer, a longtime State Department official. Bodine and Garner have been criticized for being slow to restore services and form an interim government. Hear NPR's Guy Raz.

SARS Fears Evident in San Francisco, Berkeley

The University of California at Berkeley announces that students from several Asian countries won't be allowed to attend summer school. School officials are concerned that they have no facilities to quarantine students who may contract severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS. Fears about the spread of SARS are also affecting business in San Francisco's Chinatown. Deirdre Kennedy of member station KQED reports.
